Espresso is a concentrated coffee brewed by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. It’s rich, dark, and has a layer of crema on top. Ideal for sipping straight or using in specialty coffee drinks.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat your machine
  2. Turn on the espresso machine and allow it to heat up for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Grind the beans
  4. Use a burr grinder for fresh beans and grind them fine, almost like powdered sugar.
  5. Tamp the grounds
  6. Add the grounds to the portafilter and press firmly using a tamper to create a flat surface.
  7. Pull the shot
  8. Lock the portafilter in and start the extraction. A perfect espresso should take 25–30 seconds to brew.
  9. Serve immediately
  10. Enjoy your espresso straight, or use it as a base for drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, or Americanos.
