This comforting baked macaroni and cheese recipe from Mueller’s Pasta is a creamy, cheesy classic made with elbow macaroni and a rich homemade cheese sauce.

  1. Cook the Pasta:
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cook Mueller’s elbow macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Make the Cheese Sauce:
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth and bubbly. Gradually whisk in milk. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  5. Add Cheese:
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 1½ cups of cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Combine:
  8. Mix cheese sauce with the drained pasta and pour into a greased 2-quart baking dish.
  9. Top & Bake:
  10. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs (if using) on top. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes or until bubbly and golden.
  11. Serve:
  12. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy hot!
