  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Mix in applesauce until well combined.
  5. Gradually stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Fold in raisins and nuts if using.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let cool before slicing. Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar or a light glaze.
